Niederländer Gesink gewinnt 7. Kalifornien-Rundfahrt
Robert Gesink vom Team Rabobank hat die 7. Auflage der Kalifornien-Rundfahrt gewonnen.
Der 25-jährige Niederländer ließ auf der abschließenden 8. Etappe nichts mehr anbrennen und verteidigte sein Gelbes Trikot des Gesamtführenden, das er einen Tag zuvor nach dem Gewinn der Königsetappe übernommen hatte.
Den letzten Tagessieg sicherte sich nach 68,5 Kilometern von Beverly Hills nach Los Angeles der der Slowake Peter Sagan (Liquigas-Cannondale). Der 22-Jährige gab im Massensprint dem Belgier Tom Boonen (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) sowie dessem deutschen Teamkollegen Gerald Ciolek das Nachsehen.
Auf Rang vier sprintete der Eisenhüttenstädter Roger Kluge (Argos-Shimano) vor dem Deutsch-Australier Heinrich Haussler (Garmin-Barracuda). Für Sagan war es der fünfte Tageserfolg der achttägien Rundfahrt durch den US-Bundesstaat.
In der Endabrechnung konnte sich Gesink mit 46 Sekunden gegenüber dem US-Amerikaner David Zabriskie (Garmin-Barracuda) behauopten. Dessen Landsmann und Teamkollege Thomas Danielson wurde mit 54 Sekunden Dritter. Bester Deutscher wurde der Mecklenburger Jens Voigt (RadioShack-Nissan/+16:04) auf Platz 33.
