Horner gewinnt 6. Kalifornien-Rundfahrt – Goss siegt auf Schlussetappe
Der US-Amerikaner Christopher Horner hat die 6. Auflage der Kalifornien-Rundfahrt durch den gleichnamigen US-Bundesstaat gewonnen.
Den Sieg der abschließenden 8. Etappe sicherte sich der Australier Matthew Goss und sorgte damit doch noch für einen Etappenerfolg des US-Teams HTC-Highroad. Der Mailand-San-Remo-Sieger setzte sich nach 132,4 Kilometern von Santa Clarita nach Thousand Oaks vor dem Slowaken Peter Sagan (Liquigas) und dem Neuseeländer Greg Henderson (Sky) im Massensprint durch. Bester Deutscher des Schlussabschnittes wurde der Hamburger Timon Seubert aus der deutschen NetApp-Mannschaft als Zwölfter.
Auf die Spitze der Gesamtwertung hatte die Etappe erwartungsgemäß keinen Einfluss mehr. Der 39 Jahre alte Christopher Horner (RadioShack) verteidigte sein Gelbes Trikot mit 38 Sekunden Vorsprung auf seinen Landsmann und Teamkollegen Levi Leipheimer, Gesamtsieger der Austragungen 2007 bis 2009. Die Plätze drei und vier sicherte sich das US-amerikanische Garmin-Cervélo-Duo Thomas Danielson (2:45 Min. zurück) und Christian Vande Velde (+3:18). Hinter Tejay Van Garderen (USA/HTC-Highroad) wurde der Niederländer Laurens Ten Dam (Rabobank) Sechster und damit bester „Nicht-Amerikaner“. Der Münsteraner Linus Gerdemann (Leopard Trek/+6:22) beendete die Rundfahrt als bester Deutscher auf Gesamtrang 11.
